The presentation gets started

MarkLogic’s User Group in London (MUGL) was hosted by The Royal Society of Chemistry in their London location in Piccadilly. If you haven’t been to Burlington House — it’s steeped with history. The Royal Society and its volumes and volumes of chemical knowledge takes up much of the East wing. It was ironic really. Sitting in that spacious room with soaring ceiling, ensconced in books – and we were talking about next-generation databases. In fact all the knowledge in this room and more – were now sitting on a server somewhere.

David Leeming, Solutions Manager, Strategic Innovation Group at Royal Society of Chemistry took center stage to kick off the event and explain why the Society had chosen MarkLogic’s platform (because of its ability to scale, ingest from hundreds of sources and quickly create new products). After loading 1 million articles, Royal Society of Chemistry has created 10 new products on top of MarkLogic since 2010. Previously, the Society was limited to about 1 product a year. The granular search and new products have boosted usage by 40 percent ensuring the Society’s presence long into the future.

To show its support to the growing user community, David Gorbet, VP of engineering at MarkLogic, presented the MarkLogic roadmap, tipping his hand as to what MarkLogic has in store for its Fall release. The 60-odd enthusiastic participants, all MarkLogic customers, learned more about the promised Elasticity, Semantics, and refined search — but more importantly were able to bend his ear on what they would like to see in future releases.
