Last week we put out a press release announcing the availability of MarkLogic 8 Early Access Edition, which coincided with our Partner Summit in New York. I had the opportunity to talk to some of our partners and CTOs, and it was a great opportunity to capture some initial reactions about MarkLogic 8—both from those who are very familiar with MarkLogic already and some potential partners that were just hearing about the new features for the first time. MarkLogic 8 is arguably one of the biggest releases in company history. For a company that has had XML at its core for over a decade, this is a big move to now natively store JSON as a data type right alongside XML. I wouldn’t say this is like Vatican II or anything, but it’s a transition to seriously expand the flexibility and power of MarkLogic to a much broader audience. I think it’s a tipping point for MarkLogic and there’s a palpable excitement about how the database landscape is going to be impacted. Talking to our partners at the summit, I found their response to MarkLogic 8 overwhelmingly positive. They are excited to show it to their clients because they are showing them things that never existed before. And, in fact, some of our partners are already building new applications on MarkLogic 8 that will go live into production soon after the general announcement in early 2015. With MarkLogic 7, a customer went into production within two weeks after it became available. I’m looking forward to seeing whether anyone can beat that record. MarkLogic’s CTOs were also very excited to talk about some of their favorite features in MarkLogic. When asked in a panel discussion what their favorite MarkLogic 8 feature was, this is what they said:
I agree with Ken—it’s not just one new feature. It’s the sum of features in MarkLogic 8 that make is incredibly powerful. The pillars of MarkLogic—power, agility, trust—are all being strengthened in MarkLogic 8. I look forward to the upcoming launch, because I know that MarkLogic 8 is truly one of the biggest launches in MarkLogic’s history, and there’s something in it for everyone—whether you’re a developer, DBA, architect, or CIO. If you’re interested in getting started today, then give MarkLogic 8 Early Access a try. Responses to MarkLogic 8 at the Partner Summit in NYC from MarkLogic. | |
